My visit at the Arbor Gallery Cultural Centre
I’m on a quest this summer: to discover my region’s hidden gems. Being away from Prescott and Russell for a while made me forget all of the beauties this area as to offer. When you think of something to do, in my case, I always think to go to the big cities. Surprisingly, I find myself enjoying more of my region than I ever would have thought. There’s so much to do and so much to discover. Go ahead, surprise yourself like I did when I rediscover Prescott and Russell all over again. Two weeks ago I went for my first visit at Le Chenail Cultural Center. This week, my visit was at the charming Arbour Gallery a multifaceted artistic and cultural centre situated in Vankleek Hill.
If you don’t know the Arbor Gallery Cultural Centre, it’s an arts gallery nested within one of Vankleek Hill’s many century houses. There are two separate areas in the gallery, the exhibition room where the art exhibitions, shows, and courses happen. The other welcomes a gift shop open all year round where everything that they sell is hand made by local artists! You can find all kind of stuff like jewelry, pottery, and much more.
Are you looking for something to do this weekend? Go check out the exhibition by Natasha Martel running until July 30. The exhibition is called Applying patterns and growing systems in a nonlinear way. This young artist graduated from Concordia University in Fine Arts moved to Vankleek Hill in November for love. I mean, who wouldn’t right?
This year, the Artscamble won’t be happening but they came up with a similar project. Starting in mid-September to the end of October, the GIFTED SHOW is an opportunity for early Christmas shopping! Don’t miss your chance to get an original art piece at a lower cost, all made by local artists.
Also on September 16, there will be a live FUNdraising event. A live drawing of a male model. Something you had in mind for your bucket list? Here’s your chance! You get to sketch and draw a live model whilst enjoying some jazz music and wine. I mean, this sounds amazing, right?
In November, the Arbor Gallery Cultural Centre is also part of our project: 150 Reasons to Be Canadian. They’ll be exposing 25 of the 150 artwork presented of our big night on October 21 at the River Rock Inn in Rockland.
On your way to Arbor Gallery Cultural Centre, don’t forget to drop by Beau’s brewery, grab lunch at Vert Fourchette and visit all the other attractions Vankleek Hill has to offer. Don’t miss out on this cultural oasis situated at 36 Home Ave, Vankleek Hill, Ontario. They’re open from 11 am to 1 pm on Wednesday and from 12 pm to 4 pm from Thursday to Sunday. Go for a visit, the volunteers will gladly welcome you in.
