Biography

Josie De Meo is from Italian origins, born in Montreal. She moved to Ottawa in 1994 and is married with 2 children. Her career started in the banking industry until the birth of her first child. She has been painting full time exhibiting, selling original artworks and commissions around the world for over 25 years. She works in many mediums (watercolors, graphite, acrylics, oil paints and mixed media) her art all expresses a love of color, the natural world and the unexpected. As much as she likes creating, she has a passion for guiding others through the learning process and helping them to develop skills that will enable them to show their heart. She volunteers regularly creating art with the local community through art groups or partnership with The DeSerres art store and MIFO. For the past six years she teaches for the City of Ottawa and MIFO (French community center) giving art lessons to adults and children, (French and English classes).

Artist Statement

As an artist with a profound love for the vibrant world of colors, I find inspiration in the enchanting interplay between the environment and emotions. My artistic journey has led me to explore a diverse range of mediums, including watercolors, acrylics, pastels, and drawing, each allowing me to express the beauty of Mother Nature and my Italian heritage. As a GOLDEN Artist Educator, I take great pride in sharing my passion for art with others. Teaching art is not only about transferring techniques but also about fostering creativity and encouraging my participants to find their own artistic path. I strive to create a nurturing and inspiring environment in my classes, where my students can explore their creativity and develop their artistic voice. My art is a celebration of the harmony between nature, emotions, and the vivid colors that define our world. It reflects my Italian heritage and a testament to the continuous journey of self-discovery as an artist. Through my artwork and teaching, I hope to inspire others to embrace the beauty of our surroundings and to find solace and joy in the boundless world of art.
