150 REASONS TO BE CANADIAN:
Revealing the 150 artists and the 151st artwork

ALFRED, ON – September 25, 2017 – It is with great anticipation that the Conseil des arts Prescott Russell Arts Council (CAPRAC) reveals the 150 artists of Prescott and Russell and its surroundings, that are participating to the regional cultural phenomenon that is 150 Reasons to Be Canadian
These 150 artists, artisans and creators all contributed a piece of art to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Canada’s Confederation. CAPRAC wishes to acknowledge their creativity, passion for the arts and implication in the cultural community. This identity reveal of the multitude of artists from the region and its surroundings involved in the project serves to demonstrate the significant commitment of the artists towards their community.
“A healthy community is one that creates spaces and offers opportunities for its members to be creative and express their ideas, thoughts, and talents. 150 reasons to Be Canadian is a project that was created as a celebration of the talent of the region, and Canada’s 150th” expressed Shanna Steals, Executive Director of CAPRAC. In honour of this, CAPRAC invited people from the community to make clay paddles for a canoe constructed out of birch bark. These paddles symbolize the people, the driving force behind what the organisation does, and the canoe symbolizes CAPRAC carrying the precious cargo- the artistic, cultural and heritage community of Prescott and Russell -- towards the future.

Also, it is important to recognize the participation of 38 student artists from 12 high schools across the region, each representing their respective schools. CAPRAC is proud to have united these young ambassadors, the artistic youths of tomorrow, and to give them the opportunity to express themselves through their chosen artform.
CAPRAC chose to present the 150 participating artists, to illustrate the magnitude of this unique project. On October 21, 2017 at the River Rock Inn in Rockland, CAPRAC will unveil the 150 artworks of these talented individuals and groups, to demonstrate the creative drive of a community that has come together to celebrate the arts, culture, and heritage of our region.
